The Sovereignty of God
God is in Absolute Total Control!
Some people get all bent out of shape when the doctrine of the Sovereignty of God is mentioned. And that is quite unfortunate, sense a deficient view of God's Sovereignty, is nothing but a deficient view of God Himself.
False views of God are called "idolatry" in the Bible, and Christians better be very careful when they try to limit or restrict God to viewpoints that fit consistently with their puny and incomplete thinking. It did not take very much to persuade the children of Israel, that the God who brought them out of Egypt was a golden calf! Think about this. If any people should have known who He really was it was them. They were the eyewitnesses to His mighty deeds. Surely they knew He was not a golden calf!
And sadly many Christians today, dance around the golden calf of imaginary human free will, or human independence. Or they celebrate at the altar of the false God who is more human than He is God. All the while, they try to restrain the Godhood of God, and fit Him into the thimble of human understanding. My friends please don't go there, and please don't join in the riotous and rebellious orgy around the golden calf's of today.
God is God, and God does what God has always done... Whatever He Wants to Do! And no man can restrain His hand or say unto Him "what doest Thou?" (Eccl. 8:4; Dan 4:35).
There are many spheres of Divine Sovereignty. Most Theologians concentrate on discussing His Sovereignty in salvation. In these discussions the emphasis focuses upon the Biblical teachings about, election, predestination, foreknowledge, effectual calling, quickening by the Holy Spirit, regeneration etc. These are all important and true doctrines of the Bible, and we will discuss them more under the heading of Soteriology (The doctrine of Salvation).
But here, at this point, I just want to discuss the overarching concept of God's Sovereignty as it applies not in some limited spheres of the work of redemption. But as it applies to everything. The entire universe, the course of all history, everything created, no matter what it is, falls under the absolute control of a Sovereign God. God is the Monarch of the Universe, and He works "All things after the purpose of His own counsel and will" (Eph. 1:11). This is the true idea of the Sovereignty of God... God is in charge of everything! By Him all things consist (Col. 1:17-18). He upholds all things by the word of His power (Heb. 1:3). Not one hair grows on your head, or falls from it without Him. Not one sparrow in all of history has ever fallen without him. Not one flower has ever bloomed, or one tear ever been shed without Him.
He is Sovereign, not just by superiority of association, but by actuality of Omnipotence. The God who has all power, uses that power continuously, and is in no way restrained, by anyone or anything, including Himself. God does not restrain Himself, because He knows that He is perfect, and can do no wrong. Since He is the sum total of all holy perfections, everything that He does is right, perfect, just and inscrutable. Neither does God make any mistakes, or find any impossibilities. Nor are there territories outside His reach, or beyond His control.

A Few Verses Showing that God is Sovereign Over Everything.
